I volunteer at the Fitchburg Senior Center because I have plenty of free time and want to do something meaningful. I like knowing that all are welcome here. I would tell someone how warm and friendly folks are and there are a variety of jobs to do. Offer to bring any interested friends in for a look see.
Volunteering gives me a way to keep busy and help out in the community. Everyone is so friendly and helpful to work with. I would tell someone to try it and see how it goes. If it turns out you don't like your choice you can change to something else until you find something that will work for you.
